New Town Mews Conversion

Izat Arundell were approached in 2018 to convert an undeveloped Category A Listed mews building in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town and World Heritage Site into a two bedroom house.
The atmosphere of renovation is important and the design only introduces modern elements into existing or previously used openings to retain hierarchy of structure. The openings have always played a functional role in the day to day life of the mews and are a consequential source of spirit allowing the design to take on a more contemporary feeling in these elements.
Internally, the design respects the historic nature of the building and adopts a fully breathable construction using only natural materials. The walls will be finished in a rough clay plaster and Caithness flags are being sourced for the floor which sit alongside bespoke cabinetry made from Scottish ash.
Due for completion in Spring 2023.
