Chapel Steading

A new home in Fife is currently under construction for Eilidh’s parents — another deeply rewarding self-build project, with every phase from design through construction seeing the whole family’s involvement. Eilidh’s brother, Alasdair Izat, is currently hand-crafting the internal cabinetry, fixtures and fittings using Scottish-sourced timber which should bring the construction of the house phase to completion shortly.

The site, known as Chapel Farm, occupies the land of a former dairy farm, and offers panoramic views to the south: over the Forth and past the bridges, to the rolling Pentland hills, and on clear days to Ben Lomond rising above the gentle green fields to the west. The farm rests on a historic north roadway linking the villages of Aberdour and Dalgety Bay with inland farms and settlements, although the roadway is now more of a path through the woods, the farm site still retains a special magnetic feeling, a meeting place and linkage between Edinburgh, the coastal settlements of the Forth and the wider areas beyond.

This is not an isolated building but part of a cluster of new homes: full planning permission has been granted for another house on the plot, and the old stone tractor shed is earmarked for conversion into an additional dwelling. One of the new house plots remains available — please get in touch for more information.
