Spry Wines
Spry is a natural wine shop and bar in Edinburgh, serving small plates of delicious seasonal food. We were approached by the owners Matt and Marzena to help design and renovate the Category A listed shop on Leith Walk which had been used as a hi-fi shop for many years.
We immediately knew that we wanted to echo the symmetry of the shopfront within the interior, and incorporate the two cast iron pillars more naturally into the space. We also liked the feeling in some of Edinburgh’s oldest pubs, which use an island bar to create a sense of community and atmosphere. These ideas were taken forward and through a series of design workshops, a softly curving bar clad in staves of Equitone topped with a heavy, solid oak worktop was development. We then worked closely with the wonderful makers Namon Gaston and Sorell Furniture to refine the design ahead of construction and installation on site.
